SassCup is a drinking cup by and for people with Parkinson's disease.People with very shaky hands often find it difficult to drink liquids from a cup. SassCup was developed with this in mind. The cup with a simple handle in combination with the special insert prevents liquids from spilling. This specially developed insert ensures that no straw, spout or lid is required for drinking.The insert has holes on the side so that a sip can be taken but nothing is spilled. Fill the liquid up to the holes in the insert and you can drink from it. ARK's Cip-Kup™ makes drinking easier for beginners and/or individuals with oral motor difficulties.It features a unique valve that controls the direction of fluid - liquid flows up into the straw, but does not flow back down. Simply squeeze the bottle until fluid reaches the top of the straw and release. Fluid will stay at the top of the straw, thereby decreasing the effort required to drink. A full straw also reduces the air ingested, and so users experience less coughing and choking while consuming more fluids. Similar to the Cip-Kup™, ARK's Sip-Tip® makes drinking easier for individuals who have difficulty generating and maintaining suction. An individual can either suck from the straw themselves, or you can assist by "pumping" the fluid up the straw with the flexible lid. Simply cover the vent hole with your finger and press down several times until the liquid reaches the desired height. The Select-Flow Valve will keep the straw full of fluid, thereby reducing the air ingested and the effort required for each sip (notice the juice staying at the top of the straw in one of the images above). The valve also slows the flow of fluid, which allows for more control over the quantity of fluid taken with each sip and helps to ensure that fluid is deposited in the front of the mouth. Users tend to experience less coughing and choking and consume more fluids while drinking with the Sip-Tip®.When purchased, the valve opening is set for moderate restriction for users who tend to aspirate when taking too much fluid in one swallow. The valve can also be trimmed to increase the flow, further decreasing the effort required to drink. Adjust the flow you need by cutting back the tapered stem of the valve with scissors. ARK's Lip Blok® mouthpieces are simple yet effective oral motor tools. They naturally exercise the mouth muscles to discourage tongue-thrusting, promote tongue retraction, and correct overall tongue positioning. They also prevent individuals from biting the straw or putting it too far into their mouths. Simply press them into the top of a straw, and drink. Lip Bloks come in three different lengths: 1,9cm: yellow, clear, Lips and Mustache1,3cm: blue0,6cm: petrolFor the best results, start with the longest length. Once the individual becomes accustomed to that length,witch to the 1,3cm and then finally to the 0,6cm. This hierarchy slowly teaches individuals to put less and less of the straw into their mouths. When only 0,6cm is inside the mouth, fluid is deposited in the front of the mouth where it is easier to manage and less likely to cause coughing or aspiration. Simply push the tapered end of the valve into the bottom of a straw, and you're set to go!For individuals who tend to take too much fluid at a time, the Select-Flow Valve also slows the flow of fluid, allowing for smaller, more manageable sips that lower the risk of coughing/choking.
