Unlike conventional soothers, the NUK Suction Trainer is a medical device. As a therapeutic instrument, it makes an important contribution to overcoming sucking weakness and normalizing malfunctions in oral motor functions (e.g. in mouth breathing, disturbances in sucking, chewing, swallowing, speaking and mimic gestures). In addition, stubborn habits such as teeth grinding, teeth clenching, and tongue clenching associated with pain and clicking in the temporomandibular joints can be effectively treated. Equally important and valuable is the logopedic use of the NUK Suction Trainer as part of a breathing, voice and speech therapy. Suction training can also be used as a part of Padovan myotherapeutic training to rework or repeat the natural sequence of building perceptual and movement skills. Gaps, errors and deficiencies can be compensated for in this way. Available in the sizes:

This may vary by brand of thickener, but in general if you're using thickened liquids, "nectar" consistency works fine. "Honey" is a bit harder to suck through the straw, but it does work.
