This may vary by brand of thickener, but in general if you're using thickened liquids, "nectar" consistency works fine. "Honey" is a bit harder to suck through the straw, but it does work. ARK’s Jaw Grading Bite Blocks are a great complement to any oral motor tool box. Specially designed to work on jaw grading and stability, each arm has a different thickness to practice various jaw heights:The orange arms are 3mm and 6mm thickThe magenta arms are .7mm and 1cm thick The teal arms are 1,3cm and 1,5cm thick What is jaw grading and stability? Jaw grading is the ability to have controlled movements of the jaw to various jaw heights needed for speech and feeding skills. For example, note the difference in your jaw when saying “eee” vs “ahhh”. Or, imagine biting into a cracker vs a sandwich/burger. Your jaw has to open to different heights to accommodate those different sounds and foods. Jaw stability is the strength, coordination, and endurance needed to do so without the jaw sliding forward and/or sideways. Each Bite Block set comes with instructions including four exercises to help work on these skills. These Bite Blocks are firm for good resistance during jaw exercises, but not 100% rigid to be gentle on the teeth (for softer options to work on chewing skills, see the Grabber and/or Y-Chew). ARK's Bite Tube is a hollow chew tool with a different diameter on each end.Use it as a safe alternative for anyone who needs to chew. They can also be used as an oral motor tool to work on jaw strength and stability. The tube-like extension is perfect for individuals who want their chew tool to "collapse" more, whether as a sensory chew and/or in feeding therapy. As an oral motor tool, use it to practice biting/chewing skills without the risk of choking, to build jaw strength and stability, and to exercise the mouth muscles.Put puréed foods inside the tube for functional biting/chewing practice - when the individual bites down, they will be rewarded with a taste of food. The two different diameters allow you to work on varying jaw heights. Because the hollow tube provides less resistance than solid chews like the normal Grabber, this is a great "starter" chew tool for individuals with very limited jaw strength.Each chew measures about 12,7cm long overall, 1,3cm in diameter on one end, and 1cm in diameter on the other end.
